SteamOS Now Available for Installation on Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally Handheld Gaming Devices

Valve has officially expanded the reach of its SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system designed for handheld gaming devices. Previously exclusive to Valve’s Steam Deck, SteamOS can now be installed on the first-generation Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally.
This update follows the recent release of SteamOS 3.7.8, which introduces support for the Lenovo Legion Go S and enhances compatibility with other AMD-powered handhelds. Detailed instructions for installation, including adjustments for Secure Boot settings, can be found on the SteamOS Recovery and Installation page.
Valve has indicated that it is actively working to broaden support for additional devices, suggesting that more handhelds could soon be compatible with SteamOS. The company is also collaborating with select partners to create officially licensed devices powered by SteamOS.
The latest SteamOS update includes significant enhancements such as updates to the Arch Linux base, Linux kernel, and Mesa graphics driver, as well as improvements to the Plasma desktop environment. New features include frame limiting for variable refresh rate displays, battery charge limit settings, and AMD P-state CPU frequency controls. A variety of bug fixes have also been implemented, contributing to a more stable user experience.
